I've posted about Streetwise Opera before so thought I would bring Streetwise: The Opera to our attention. It is a Radio 4 programme which will be broadcast on Friday 1st December, at 11am, and will only take up half an hour of your time. I will be following homeless and ex-homeless people from Newcastle and Gateshead as they sing their first notes of opera - in preparation for a production at The Sage concert hall alongside top professionals. Between rehearsals, we hear of the group's hopes and ambitions. There is nothing low key about their performances either, no concessions are made, and professionalism is expected from the cast. Somehow though, opera = self-esteem, and it is really interesting to find out how.
